York Racecourse to show World Cup Play Off at John Smith's Cup Day on Saturday

York Racecourse still intends to show the World Cup 3rd/4th Place Play Off match at the course, as part of John Smith’s Cup Day on Saturday 14 July.

Though sharing the disappointment of millions of fans after Gareth Southgate’s young lions lost their semi-final match; the team at the Knavesmire want to offer a last chance for fans to salute the players, after a marvellous month of entertainment and restoration of pride in the national shirt.

For fans on Stands Side (County Stand and Grandstand & Paddock) who want to follow the match with full commentary, the large screen overlooking the Roberto Lawn will offer both sound and vision, as well as uninterrupted coverage of England v Belgium.

An extra Big Screen sited within the Clocktower Enclosure will also be dedicated to the match, providing uninterrupted coverage from the 3pm kick off.

Working with its broadcast partner, Racetech, everyone on course will be able to see “near live” highlights as the game unfolds. An editor based at the course will follow the action from St Petersburg and provide “goalflashs” and clips of other incidents, that will then be shown on all the screens on the course, fitting around the live racing action.

All the racing action will be shown, as normal, uninterrupted, on the twin Giant Screens as well as on the large screens that overlook the Parade Ring and John Carr Terrace.

Commenting on the plans, James Brennan, Head of Marketing said; “we understand that many fans will be feeling a little flat after Wednesday evening but we wanted to offer “a best of both sports solution” for Saturday; allowing people to enjoy the live racing, get fully involved in the football or just be kept updated with the action from Russia. We wanted to be sure that people didn’t miss out on any of the football or racing action.”
