York Racecourse

Unique Locations

One of the advantages of a large racecourse like York is that you can choose to make your own raceday experience. After you’ve picked your date, one of the most fascinating choices is which of the many spectacular views of the action do you prefer: head on, panoramic or judge’s eye, we offer them all.

Guests numbers can range from an intimate party up to a larger group. You pay for the number that you bring not the number that a venue dictates, offering true flexibility and choice.

Our caterers, York Racecourse Hospitality (managed by CGC Events), have been winning praise for many seasons for the quality and variety of their menus allied to their high customer service standards and a traditional Yorkshire sense of value.

Some hospitality areas are true "one offs" and these unique locations might be ideal for your raceday. In their nature availability is limited so please ask.

When this box was first designed in the 19th century it was to have the 'judge's eye' view of the finish and that remains a key benefit of this unique location. A true one-off, this box offers the crescendo of excitement as runners flash past its open balcony.

(York Racecourse is fully committed to providing equality of access to our services for all racegoers. The Gimcrack boxes are accessed by stairs and are therefore not suitable for wheelchair users or people with impaired mobility. We are happy to discuss the accessibility requirements of guests and where necessary will endeavour to accommodate them elsewhere in our wide range of accessible hospitality facilities.)

This suite of rooms is the ideal home for that extra special raceday.

Used by the York Race Committee on the Festival days, it comes with one of the best views in racing, directly opposite the finish (the judge sits next door!). It offers a spacious lounge complete with viewing balcony and a separate dining room with stunning views of Terry's clocktower and the Edwardian Weighing Room.

Add in the convenience of private cloakrooms, plasma screen TVs and proximity to tote betting, you can see why this facility will satisfy the needs of the most discerning racegoer.

‘Service today was exemplary, third year doing this and the staff working on the bar and general service were incredibly helpful and their attitudes were fantastic. Great day, well done York .’

‘Excellent service - Rebecca was very attentive to the clients. It is very reassuring to have same staff as last June. Thanks again.’

'Impeccable atmosphere as ever engendered by very professional and attentive staff - nothing too much trouble - service levels acknowledged by all our guests - thank you!!''

An open space with full bar, located on the second floor of the Knavesmire Stand.

On our busiest days, the Sharpo Bar still serves Grandstand & Paddock racegoers, however it has developed into offering the ideal spot for a group to spend a more relaxed raceday together.

The bar with its two seating/mingling areas (in front and behind the actual bar itself) can be booked as a private space.

Light and bright, there is a view towards the Betting Ring and track beyond that on one side; whilst a balcony overlooks the Knavesmire Courtyard towards the former Terrys factory, at the rear.

Bespoke menus offering a more casual dining experience can be tailored to your day.

The Sharpo has been a popular base for racing syndicates or for organisations looking to host their teams in a more relaxed style than conventional hospitality boxes.
