Mark Johnston on the 63rd John Smith's Cup

One of the iconic British Handicaps, the £200,000 John Smith's Cup,is the traditional centrepiece of saturday's card on the Knavesmire.

A  maximum field goes to post for the ten furlong race, with a host of runners having chances.

You have to go back to 2009 for the ast Yorkshire trained winner, and those hoping to end that sequence include Mark Johnston, who runs the four year old Forest Falcon, to be ridden by Franny Norton.

Sam James on the Paver Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint

Showtime Mahomes, a winner at York's Skybet Sunday meeting last month, is back at the track for an even bigger pot on Saturday, when he lines up for the Paver Foundation Catherine Sprint, the feature three year old handicap on MacMillan Day.

The customary big field of sprinters is assembled for the 6 furlong dash, with jockey Sam James, enjoying a good season hoping for another big York run.,

He's been speaking with Mike Vince.

Michael Andrews on the Macmillan Ride of Their Lives

It's now less than a month until a dozen brave jockeys enjoy the thrill of riding on a raceday at York, in the annual Ride of their Lives.

The event is the finale on our June Saturday and like everything on the day will be in support of Macmillan, the cancer charity.

The riders were named at Christmas and have been hard at work since both fund rasing and getting themselves into shape for the Ride of their Lives.

It'll be a poignant occasion for one of them, Social Media Manager Michael Andrews, who has revealed the part stricken jump jockey Josh Moore has played in his story.

Michael has been speaking with Mike Vince.

Michael Shinners on the Sky Bet Sunday Series

York will stage two Sunday racedays in 2022 for the first time.

In addition to the traditional Family Sunday this weekend a new raceday has been added to the traditional Saturday to make a Knavesmire weekend.

The Sunday card, with a first race of 3.30pm is part of a new initiative by Yorkshire based bookmakers Skybet, called the Skybet Sunday Series, with significant hikes in porice money and bonuses on offer.

6 of the 7 races will be handicaps.
