This update was posted at 9.30am on Monday 10th August.
Following the recent decisions by Government with regards to slowing the pace of any easing in the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is now clear that the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival (Wednesday 19th August- Saturday 22nd August) will operate strictly “behind closed doors”. This is to comply with the Government’s Elite Sport Stage 3 protocols, so the venue will operate as it did for the recent July racedays.
Whilst this is clearly a disappointing decision for racing supporters and many in our home city; it is right that the public health is kept as a priority.
The many highlights of the four days will be available to view from the comfort of home with ITV1 showing five races a day and Racing TV all twenty-eight contests. For more details on the race programme please click here.
For the Owners of the star horses set to run at the Ebor Festival, a more detailed update will follow, however they remain most welcome in line with the Governments protocols for participants in the sport.
Customers who booked direct with York Racecourse for the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival 2020 are entitled to a full refund.
The revenue from gate receipts is vital to the ongoing well-being of York Racecourse; it helps fund the prize money which regularly attracts the star horses and jockeys and is the life blood of racing stables, it contributes towards the facilities for all to enjoy and keeps together the team that work to deliver the racedays.
So, we are requesting that our racegoers simply allow us to transfer their existing bookings to the summer of 2021. This would mean a price freeze on what we hope is a regular event and that no further action is required by the customer. Your 2021 badges/tickets will be sent to you next season. The provisional dates for next season would mean the 2021 Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival would run Wednesday 18th August through to Saturday 21st August.
It is understood that not everyone will be in a position to offer us this support, so only if you require a refund, please contact the team by email to request that refund. To help us to help you, please include a copy of your original confirmation email as that will include important information such as your order number and postcode. Please then use the dedicated email firstname.lastname@example.org
As the process will be done in chronological order of the racedays over the coming weeks, racegoers are asked for patience as the team process the refunds. In most cases automatically appearing on the valid card, used for the original transaction. Please note the team will contact customers directly with any queries over the processing of a refund, for example where a payment card has expired since the time of booking.
If you have purchased your admission through a third party such as Racing Breaks, please contact the original point of purchase to process a refund.
Those who have booked a Private Box or a table in one of our restaurants also have the option to transfer the booking to 2021 or to receive a refund. Hospitality customers will be contacted directly by the team, however any urgent messages can be sent by email to email@example.com
As the final meeting of the York Racecourse season, on Friday October 9th and Saturday 10th falls after the current Government target date for re-opening sporting stadia of 1st October, then any bookings you have made for these meetings are still valid.
York Racecourse will continue to be guided by the health advice that is appropriate both at the time of any fixtures and as they draw closer. It is clearly a period of rapid change as Government looks to address the next stages of the pandemic.
For locals who use the Knavesmire, please note that the raceday closure of Cherry Lane Car Park and the Service Road, between 12noon-6pm on each day of the Ebor Festival (19th to 22nd August 2020) will still be required to best ensure everyone’s safety.
Thank you for your continuing support and patience in what is the most unusual of seasons.
