York's dream of adding a fourth Group 1

York Racecourse will find out next month if their dream of adding a fourth Group 1 Championship race to the flagship Sky Bet Ebor Festival in August has been successful.

The British Horseracing Authority is backing the track's plans to upgrade the Sky Bet City of York Stakes into Britain's first Group 1 championship race over 7 furlongs.

The decision rests with the European Pattern Committee at their January meeting.

York Chief Executive William Derby is keeping his fingers crossed.

Cieren Fallon after the Coral Sprint Trophy

The 10-1 shot Montassib, trained by William Haggas and ridden by Cieren Fallon has landed the £100,000 Coral Sprint Trophy, the feature race on the final day of York's 2023 season.

In a race dominated by horses who raced on he inside he came home ahead of his 21 rivals with Ayr Gold Cup winner Significantly second and Gweedore third.

Trainer Ben Brookhouse ahead of £100,000 EBF Final

Newmarket trainer Ben Brookhouse  goes for fhe biggest win of his rookie career when he saddles the unbeaten African Spirit in the £100,000 EBF Final (colts and geldings), one of the two six figure features on the first day of York's Final meeting of 2023.

She won her only start, at Newcastle, while Brookhouse has enjoyed a memorable first full season, with many of the horses owned bu his father.

But this horse is different.

Frankie wins his final Sky Bet Ebor

Frankie Dettori has taken York Racecourse by storm in his final day riding on the Knavesmire before retirement.

He won the £500,000 Sky Bet City of York Stakes and followed up with a thrilling victory on the Willie Mullins trained Absurd who floored the favourite Sweet William in the Sky Bet Ebor.
