York Racecourse is easy to reach from all the UK's larger centres of population.

By Road

York Racecourse is just outside the city of York with good motorway links on the M1 and A1. Once near the city, from the south, east and west the A64 and A1036 are the roads to follow. From the north, use the A19 and A59, then the York Ring Road to avoid the city centre.

For John Smith's Cup Saturday and the Ebor Festival in August a special traffic plan will apply. Please refer to your ticket pack or follow the relevant signs on the day.

Car and Coach Parking  

There is plentiful free car and coach parking at York Races (with the exception of The Ebor festival when a £5 per vehicle fee will apply.) Please follow directional signs at all times.

By Private Hire Pick up  


The pick up and drop off point for private hire vehicles is located beside the old chocolate factory on Bishopthorpe Road next to the coach park. This is approximately 200m from the racecourse.

By Rail  

Fast and frequent rail services take as little as 1 hour 52 minutes from London Kings Cross and some 2.5 hours from Edinburgh. Manchester and Birmingham are also direct. (The course is 1 mile from the station and City Centre and a First Bus raceday shuttle runs every 20 minutes).

By Air  

Leeds/Bradford and Manchester International airports are within fifty and ninety minutes respectively. An Aircoach operatess between Leeds/ Bradford and the city and there are rail links between Manchester and York.
