Food & Drink

At York Racecourse we pride ourselves on the variety, quality and value for money of our food and drink offer to all racegoers whether they have booked hospitality or not.  Wherever possible we use locally sourced ingredients, freshly made on site ranging from hand-held snacks to a three course sit-down meal and all of which are available without the need to pre-book.  Below is an outline guide to the range of eateries available to racegoers in each enclosure to help plan your day.

County Stand

Within County Stand there are traditional restaurants, contemporary bistros and plenty of places to pick up a tasty treat or enjoy something a little more substantial. Those with County Stand badges also have entry to all areas, including food and drink options, in the Grandstand & Paddock and Course Enclosure.

Gimcrack Restaurant on the 1st floor of the County Stand offers a great value three course sit-down lunch for £26.00 from 11.30am.  This wonderful Edwardian dining room cannot be booked in advance and is available to all County Stand Badgeholders on a first come – first served basis.  After lunch service from 3.30pm the room is host to the famous “Gimcrack afternoon tea” – this fabulous buffet style afternoon tea with hot and cold savouries for £7.50 represents great value and is a wonderful treat.

The Champagne and Seafood area opposite the Parade Ring is one of the places to be at York Racecourse.  As well as being a wonderful champagne bar with our famous “York Racecourse Champagne of the Meeting” priced at under £30 for every raceday and a full range of beers, Guinness, wines, spirits and cocktails, there are a number of eating options.  The Paddock Smorgasboard offers a wide selection of seafood platters paninis and sandwiches including dressed crabs and lobster – our “Seafood Platter to Share” includes all the bounty from the sea.  On the back wall of the Listed John Carr building freshly grilled homemade burgers and Yorkshire steak sandwiches from the Paddock Griddle. 

Within the famous Moët & Chandon Pavilion there are a selection of freshly made sandwiches for under £4.

The Melrose Club Lounge
Located on the second floor of the Melrose Stand the Club Lounge offers a day upgrade to an exclusive area overlooking the track. The upgrade includes a delicious Yorkshire tapas “grazing” luncheon and light afternoon tea. We would recommend that you book this in advance when purchasing your County Stand admission badge as there are only a limited number of places available and may not be available to buy on the day.  Please click here for more information on the Melrose Club Lounge.

The Princess Mary Seafood Bistro and Bar
The Princess Mary Bar adjacent to the County Stand entrance has the atmosphere of a busy street café and offers a perfect suntrap from which to watch the world go by.  Recently refurbished, this popular eatery offers seafood platters, sandwiches and snacks with tea and cakes also on sale.

Ebor Bistro
The Bistro on the ground floor of the Ebor Stand offers a range of hot meals including a range of chef carved roasts such as Yorkshire topside of beef with Yorkshire pudding, Roast loin of pork, apple sauce and stuffing and local farmed turkey with cranberry sauce.  In addition there is a wide selection of homemade pies, freshly prepared salad boxes and specials of the day.  With a giant screen and adjacent seating area this popular eatery serves throughout the day.

Middlethorpe Buffet on the first floor of the Ebor Stand offers a limited selection of snacks and homemade pies from a wonderful location overlooking the final furlong.

Eclipse Restaurant on the top, 5th floor offers a great value carvery for £9.50 (2011 price), or a seafood platter served with a baker’s basket of bread, new potatoes and self-serve salad for £12.15 (2011 price).  The Eclipse Restaurant is open from 11.30am.

Grandstand & Paddock

We have a wide selection of kiosks and mobile outlets offering a range to suit all tastes behind/beyond the Knavesmire Stand on the Bustardthorpe lawns.  We work closely and in partnership with these specialist and local suppliers to ensure a unique, high quality and wide ranging choice of food options. These include outdoor reared British hog roast and beef sandwiches, fish & chips cooked in traditional dripping, Whitby Scampi, freshly made pizzas from the on-site pizza oven, specialist “delicious making fresh deli sandwiches and oven baked potatoes”, Cornish pasties, British burgers, British Steaks, Yorkshire Beef rolls, bean-to-cup roast coffee, award-winning ice creams and much more. 

Those with Grandstand & Paddock tickets can also use Course Enclosure.

Knavesmire Restaurant
The Knavesmire Restaurant on the ground floor of the Knavesmire Stand is a large self service restaurant with a large seating area offering a range of hot meals, chef’s carvery and a selection of salad boxes, sandwiches and snacks.  For instance homemade lasagne with a rich cheddar topping is priced at £5.40, (2011 price).

The Sharpo Buffet is situated on the 2nd floor of the Knavesmire Stand and offers both a wonderful vista across the track and a selection of sandwiches, snacks and beverages.

Roberto Lawn
The Roberto Pimm’s & Champagne Bar overlooking the Roberto Lawn and decking area has a selection of seafood salads, sandwiches and snacks.

Course Enclosure

The Course Enclosure has its own mobile food court with adjacent marquee and seating area.  A selection of fish and chips, British beef burgers, doughnuts and ice creams.  On Saturdays we add a Pizza offer and a barbeque unit freshly grills from the top of the Course Enclosure bank. 

Please remember – do not bring glass into the Course Enclosure if you are bringing a picnic.
