York Racecourse announce Sportingbet as new sponsor at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival
York Racecourse is delighted to announce that global bookmaker, sportingbet.com, will support the Great Voltigeur Stakes on the opening day of the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival, Tuesday August 17th 2010.
The sportingbet.com Great Voltigeur is a famous Group 2 contest offering £140,000 in prize money. Run over one mile and four furlongs, it is widely regarded as the leading form indicator for the final classic of the season, the St Leger.
William Derby, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course, said, “I am delighted that Sportingbet have extended their support at York to include such a famous contest. Their race is a highlight of the richest day of action at York, a fantastic opening card that includes the Juddmonte International. We are proud to stage sixteen races that offer at least a six figure prize fund and we could not do that without the help and commitment of our sponsors.”
James Brennan, Head of Marketing and Sponsorship at York added, “The sportingbet.com Great Voltigeur is a race to look forward to, having already produced many great champions including thirteen who followed up their success here with victory at Doncaster, most recently Lucarno who won for John Gosden in 2007.”
Sportingbet.com will continue their backing for the final day of the Dante Festival at York, Friday May 14th, when three races will benefit from their support, including an additional £40,000 Listed contest for fillies.
Andrew McIver, Chief Executive Officer, said “Sportingbet is proud to be associated with York and the top quality races that they host. We made a commitment to back UK racing and we are delighted to be able to honour it at a course that played such an important role in our racing strategy last year.”
Demonstrating the breadth of their support, sportingbet.com will also sponsor the sportingbet.com Sprint, a valuable five furlong handicap at York on Saturday May 22nd, as well as taking four new races on the Knavesmire on Friday June 11th.
James Brennan concluded, “We are grateful for the significant increase in support from sportingbet.com and are excited about working with them to make their sponsorship a commercial success.”
