York Racecourse

Melrose Stand Improvement Project

The investment programme this winter at York Racecourse involves an improvement to the lower levels of the Melrose Stand by the Parade Ring.  Work is underway and the project is currently on course for completion ahead of the Dante Festival 2010.

The ground floor will see an upgrade and reconfiguration of the tote facility as well as a back-of-house improvement to the kitchens.  The first floor will see the Owners’ Lounge increased in size and made lighter and brighter.  By ensuring there is an appropriate facility to accommodate the growing numbers of people associated with racehorse ownership, the course is investing to help to ensure it continues to attract the best horses.

On the second floor a new suite called the Melrose Club Lounge will be created.  This will have track views as well as a conservatory overlooking the Weighing Room.  The intention is to create an exclusive atmosphere where places can be purchased on a daily basis for those with either County Stand Day or Annual Badges.  The Melrose Club Lounge will have a dedicated lift, facilities, viewing balcony and offer wonderful views across the racecourse.  Food in the form of canapés and light luncheon menu is being developed by award winning chef, Lee Heptinstall, who joins the team in January.
