Press Sunday Family entertainment at York includes Peppa Pig!

The annual Press Family Raceday at York this Sunday (September 6) includes a host of family entertainment from when the gates open at 11-15 a.m. It’s a comprehensive day out for both the novice and regular racegoers and, as usual, accompanied children under 16 years of age will be admitted free of charge into all enclosures.

The seven-race programme begins at 2-00 p.m. with The Jen & Tony Smeaton Golden Anniversary Stakes –a Nursery Handicap for two-year-olds.

The majority of the card is backed by betinternet.com, who are welcomed to York as race sponsors. The feature race of the day is the Best Odds Guaranteed At betinternet.com Stakes, an £18,000 handicap contest for sprinters over six furlongs.  The Collingwood Team Service Stakes is the longest race of the afternoon; this handicap contest for stayers is supported by the team which has the cleaning contract for at the racecourse, ensuring the facilities are at their best.

Adding to the entertainment will be Children’s TV characters, Peppa Pig and George, there to greet younger racegoers.

At Racehorse Corner, children can also meet former racehorse Mooramana (‘Alfie’ to his friends) and pony ‘Brandy’. There’s an interactive element to this area, with youngsters able to dress like a jockey and have a go on the horse simulator, along with handling real saddles and speak to a jockey. There will be experts on hand to explain about the sport of racing.

There are more racing animals to meet with the retired greyhounds adding to the fun.

Bouncy castles in the Grandstand and Paddock plus inflatable assault courses courtesy of the army, along with a face painting competition, complete the entertainment that is included in the admission price.

A series of interviews with those involved in the sport and the totesport-sponsored ‘Punter’s Panel’ offering a preview to the action, provide something for those seeking to find out more about the racing.

With just three racedays to go, the competition for both the Ecurie25 Top Jockey at York and the Minster Jaguar Top Trainer is hotting up.
