Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup entry Fiulin set for return.
TRAINER Marco Botti is planning for progressive stayer Fiulin to head to York on May 15 for the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup after his success in Wednesday's Further Flight Stakes with a convincing six length win.
Botti has already tasted success at the renowned Dante Festival with Raymi Coya triumphing in last year’s Michael Seely Memorial Fillies’ Stakes.
That victory was in Listed company, but now Botti is eying an even bigger prize at the meeting with Fiulin under consideration for a shot at the £140,000 Group 2 contest.
The four-year-old colt picked up two wins in 2008 and on his final start of the season only went down by three parts of a length in finishing third to Veracity in the Group 2 Jockey Club Cup at Newmarket.
He has been pleasing in his homework over the spring, which allowed Botti to declare the son of Galileo for the Listed contest at Nottingham. The Further Flight Stakes was staged over the same 1m 6f trip as the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup.
The Newmarket-based Italian, who has made a cracking start to the new campaign, was eager to get a prep race into Fiulin before tackling the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup. This year it has attracted a high-class entry of 30, including Yeats, Veracity and last year’s winner Geordieland.
He said: “I couldn’t be happier with his condition – he looks in good nick. He is more mature than last year – physically, he has filled out.
“He has tightened up in the last two weeks and has been working well. But he is such a big horse and more laid-back than last year.”
Five other Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup entries have been declared to contest the Further Flight Stakes. They are Henry Cecil’s pair Ajaan and Unleashed - as well as Hindu Kush, Macorville and The Betchworth Kid.
