York’s Dante Festival could be the next target for current Derby favourite, the Brian Meehan trained, Crowded House. The colt is being considered for the totesport.com Dante Stakes on Thursday 14th May.
The top rated 2-year-old whose scintillating performance in last year’s Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster catapulted him to the head of the 2009 Derby betting market has various options for his initial outing of this season.
According to Meehan the Totesport.com Dante is one of two likely destinations for the exciting 3-year-old’s first run of the year.
The totesport Dante-Derby double has been completed on a total of nine occasions since 1945 and is currently enjoying a particularly rich vein of form as three of the last five Epsom winners arrived via the Knavesmire; namely North Light, Motivator and Authorized.
Last year’s winner, Tartan Bearer, went so close to making it 4 out of 5. The
Sir Michael Stoute trained colt was beaten by under a length by New Approach. The runner-up in the 2008 totesport.com Dante was the Aidan O’Brien trained Frozen Fire who later went on to classic glory in the Irish Derby at the Curragh.
This strong link has led to the launch of the York Classic Bet; a promotion that offers racegoers who book in advance for May the chance to win a free return to York on Saturday October 10th. Book in advance for the Dante Festival and if a winner from your day goes on to claim any English Classic then we’ll invite you back in October on a complimentary basis.
The three day Dante festival commences with the Tattersalls Musidora, the leading pointer for the Oaks on Wednesday 13th May 2009 and concludes with the Emirates Yorkshire Cup on Friday 15th May.
