Where to Go

Choosing your Enclosure

Whether your new to racing or have never visited York Racecourse what each enclosure can offer in terms of a day out is not always clear. This page is intended to make your selection of which enclosure to enter a little easier.

We have three enclosures at York: the County Stand, Grandstand & Paddock and Course Enclosure. All three enclosures are outlined below, please consult the interactive map for further details. Alternatively, call the bookings team on (01904) 620911, who will be pleased to offer advice on which enclosure will best suit your requirements.

County Stand

As York's Premier Enclosure you gain access the award winning Ebor Stand, Listed Old County Stand, and popular Champagne Terrace. The ground, first, and fifth floor are open to County Stand badgeholders with the Ebor Bistro housed on the first floor and a selection of bars and viewing areas on the remaining two.

Enjoy lunch or afternoon tea in the Gimcrack Rooms, or sip a glass of champagne on the bustling Champagne Terrace. You can go down to the Winning Post to catch a glimpse of the horses dashing by or view them from the lawns. The excitement of the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure are close at hand.

Coming to York is often a celebration and this area provides the chance to dress up as Ladies often wear hats and gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and tie. Please click here to view our dresscode.

Admission includes a complimentary racecard, which includes much more than the information on the runners & riders. Please note a County Stand badge also allows you access the Grandstand & Paddock aswell as Course Enclosure.

Grandstand & Paddock

Admission into the Grandstand & Paddock allows you access to the areas highlighted on the map under Grandstand & Paddock, it's the biggest area of the course and you can come casually dressed.

Enjoy a drink in the award winning Knavesmire Stand taking advantage of the bars spread over the various floors, many with spectacular views across the track and seated viewing areas. Alternatively, the Bustardthorpe Lawns provide the perfect trackside viewing whilst relaxing with food or drink from our variety of good food to go options.

You can get to the main betting ring at the front of the stands as well as the Parade Ring. The largest enclosure here at York with a raceday atmosphere to match.

Course Enclosure

This is the most informal area of the racecourse and is often chosen by families who want to combine fresh air and a picnic with the thrill of the sport. It offers a view of the finish and has a full range of bar and food areas. There is only limited wet weather shelter and you'll need to follow the Parade Ring action on the giant screens however it does offer great entertainment at the most affordable prices.

Food and drink can only be taken into the Course Enclosure, where picnics are welcome. To view the wide range of food and drink options available in all enclosures on a raceday please click here. Car parking is free on all racedays, signposted clearly from all routes into the racecourse. Please visit our Getting Here guide for more information on travelling to the course.
