'Old York' meets 'New York' Relationship
York Racecourse announce their partnership or ‘twinning’ with Saratoga Racecourse based in upstate New York; ‘Old York’ meets ‘New York’ in 2009.
Speaking about the link, Charles Hayward, the President and CEO of the New York Racing Association (the body that operates Saratoga) said; “York Racecourse is one of the pre-eminent racetracks in the United Kingdom and has many similarities to Saratoga Racecourse including world class summer racing in a beautiful setting.It is a great opportunity for NYRA to promote the Dante Festival from York to our Saratoga racing fans and I am excited about this new business relationship.”
To celebrate the new relationship both courses attributed race titles to the partnership at the four day Ebor Festival in 2009.
"We are delighted at this new partnership which can only be to the benefit of racegoers and various stake holders at the two tracks,” said William Derby, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course at York Racecourse, “Both courses have a real summer feel and put on top quality contests so I'm sure our lucky prize winners will feel at home. As well, sharing ideas and pooling experience will lead to practical improvements on both sides of the pond. I look forward to working with the team in New York State."
