MICK CHANNON CAN FOLLOW THE FOOTBALL AS WELL AS OBE BRAVE AT YORK

The Euro 2008 clash between England and Estonia will be shown live on a dedicated big screen at York Races on Saturday October 13th meaning the former England striker turned successful racehorse trainer Mick Channon can watch both the big match and the run of his entrant in the paddypower.com Sprint Trophy, Obe Brave.

The feature race over six furlongs worth £35,000 sponsored for the first time by Paddy Power is scheduled for 3.45pm, half time at Wembley.

The omens are positive on two fronts for Channon; the man who scored 21 international goals during his 46 caps has also scored in this race; winning it with Najeebon in 2003.

On the football field England have a good record on York racedays, winning seven out of their eleven matches since 1996, with three draws and just the lone defeat. A goal tally of 13 scored and just 3 conceded is another encouraging sign for the York born manager, Steve Mclaren.

Commenting on the plan, William Derby, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course said; “Saturday is a big day for those who love their sport and we wanted to offer live racing action without making football fans miss out, so we ordered in a further big screen”.

Elsewhere on the York card, leading juveniles will contest the Listed Stowe Family Law LLP Rockingham Stakes, a contest won by the likes of Balthazaar’s gift in recent years.

The York Raceday television network will keep racegoers up to date with other football scores, the International cricket from Sri Lanka and the World Matchplay Golf at Wentworth.

The Band of the Coldstream Guards will bring the curtain down on another memorable season on the Knavesmire that has seen impressive victories for star horses such as Authorized as well as record attendances on five occasions.
