MUSIC AND TOP HORSES MAKE FOR A JULY TREAT

After the excitments of the first Music Showcase evening on Thursday York is now looking forward to group racing and the wonderful Killer Queen on Saturday July 29th. The leading tribute band, 'Killer Queen', are back by popular demand, performing 'live' on stage after racing.

Saturday's racing programme, with over £210,000 in prize money, starts at 2-10 p.m. with six of the seven races sponsored by Sky Bet – one of the leading horseracing, gaming and sports betting companies in the U.K.

The principal race on Saturday is the first-running of The Sky Bet York Stakes, a £100,000 Group 2 contest, run over the extended one mile and a quarter. This new contest has been introduced to bridge the calendar between the Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown and the Juddmonte International at York's Ebor Festival; several top trainers look likely to bring their progressive middle distance stars to the race.

Also featured on Saturday's strong card is the third-running of The Skybet Dash. This £50,000 Heritage Handicap is contested by sprinters over six furlongs. Last year's winner, the locally owned La Cucaracha, subsequently won the Group 1 vc Bet Nunthorpe Stakes at York's August Festival. At the start of the day fillies and mares are catered for in The Sky Bet E.B.F. Fillies' Stakes – a Handicap race over one mile and a quarter.

Saturday's concluding race is The Fulford Golf Club Centenary Stakes – a Handicap contest over one mile and a half which celebrates the centenary landmark for another local sporting venue, with the race supported by Halifax Estates and Batleys Limited.

The trio of giant screens will enable racegoers to enjoy even more of the action on both days, including the big races at Ascot such as The King George Vl and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. The popular totesport 'Punter's Panel' takes place prior to racing helping racegoers to identify possible winners.

For the best in racing and live music York is the perfect venue.
